Abby Williams Hill Papers 1880s-1930s

Abby Williams Hill (1861-1943) was a painter and social activist, who lived in Tacoma, Washington, and is recognized for her paintings of the North Cascades and Yellowstone National Park. Topics of the collection reflect her involvement with early Tacoma and Washington State history, the Great Northern and Northern Pacific Railways, the National Park System, and the Congress of Mothers. The collection includes paintings, works on paper, correspondence, diaries, daybooks, photographs, and Native American artifacts.

Abby Williams Hill (1861-1943) was a landscape painter who worked primarily in the American West. She is best known for her commissioned works for the Great Northern and Northern Pacific railroads, which were exhibited at the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904 and the Lewis and Clark Exposition in Portland in 1905.
